What with quarantines, shut downs, and the general state of the world, it has probably been awhile since you've had the chance to visit your favorite tea bar or coffee house. Being stuck at home has probably also resulted in some less than satisfying attempts at making your favorite drinks at home without the same fancy ingredients and expertise. We played around with our tea knowledge and came up with an easy, no-nonsense recipe for making delicious London Fog lattes in the comfort of your own kitchen! London Fogs blend the bright citrus notes of Earl Grey tea with sweet and creamy vanilla to create a sumptuous beverage that can be consumed iced or hot. 

Earl Grey

Earl Grey tea combines the natural flavors of true tea leaves with that of bergamot, a small citrus fruit that tastes similar to an orange. Most Earl Grey blends are infused with bergamot oil but some also incorporate dried pieces of bergamot rind. The most common tea base for Earl Grey is black, but other types such as green or oolong blends exist. In some Earl Grey blends other ingredients are included to vary flavor. For this recipe we recommend using our Earl Grey Starlight blend for additional vanilla flavor. 


London Fog 



  • Bring water to a boil (212°F or 100°C if using a temperature controlled kettle or water heater)
  • Put tea leaves in a steeper and place in a mug or use an Ingenuitea and give your leaves more room to expand
  • Pour hot water over tea leaves and let steep for 4-5 minutes. Remove tea steeper from cup.
  • Stir in Vanilla Syrup or Bare Honey Vanilla Bean Spreadable Honey. (Add more sweetener to taste)
  • Pour in milk or milk substitute and stir
  • **For iced lattes use half the amount of hot water and strain/pour concentrate over a cup of ice**

London Fog Variations

Play around with this recipe to fit your tastes. Try adding almond instead of vanilla flavor or substitute one of our other tea blends such as Earl Grey Lavender or Earl Green for a unique flavor twist!

DIY Vanilla Simple Syrup

This recipe yields about 1 cup of simple syrup which can be saved in a sealed container for up to two weeks. You can use this syrup to sweeten coffee, tea, or use in your soda stream. 

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla Extract
  • Bring water to a boil and remove from heat
  • Add sugar to the hot water, continuing to stir until sugar has dissolved and mixture has thickened slightly
  • Stir in vanilla extract and allow to cool to room temperature
